Behind the Scenes

This is the behind the scenes subpage for Olwin.
This subpage contains all behind the scenes material relating to said article.

Background information[]

Olwin is a fictional steam locomotive created by Sarah Ball, Mark Caven and Jimmy Hibbert.

Since her proper introduction in Zephie's Zoomaround, and until her removal from the series, she would become a recurring character; not appearing nearly as often as many other characters, but still appearing fairly regularly and even receiving two episodes to herself.

Olwin is based on a London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) Class A4 locomotive (sans the tender), and is painted dark green with teal and orange highlights.

Olwin has not appeared on the show since 2015.

CGI model[]

In 2007, Olwin was most likely designed and modelled by Volume Studios in the 3D modelling software Sketchup for during production of the first series. The model was later exported to another software, Maya, for animation.[1] The model last appeared in the fifth series episode, Fletch Shines.

  • Series 2:
    • She receives the new coupler and chugger plaque design.
    • The bar connected to her buffer bases is removed.

  • Olwin's model is the shortest of any chugger in the series.
  • Olwin's coupling rods were reused for the model of Speedy.

Texture variants[]

In addition to her standard livery, several other texture variants exist of Olwin's CGI model. These variants include:
