Herschend Entertainment Studios is the current owner of Chuggington (as of December 10th, 2018). Launched in 2016, it is the production arm of Herschend Enterprises, which has produced Jim Henson's Splash and Bubbles for PBS Kids. It is best known for Herschend Family Entertainment, which owns and operates several parks and attractions (including Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, the Branson Belle Showboat, Callaway Resort & Gardens, Adventure Aquariam, and more).
Current plans from Herschend for Chuggington include:
- New short-form and long-form content, set for release in Spring 2020, including:
- Season 6 (46 x 10' + two half-hour specials)
- Discover Chuggington: All Aboard! (26 x 1.5').
- New licenses, beginning with toys with Alpha Group, for 2020.
- Intergration into live events through Herschend Live.
- Potential rides and "worlds" within the company's Family Entertainment brand parks and experiences.
- A brand new app, Ready to Roll, featuring several elements from the new season.
