Flatcars, also known as flatbeds, are cars with no walls, good for carrying containers, bricks, and other materials.

Wooden Flatcars[]

Wooden flatcars have been used to transport hay[2] and bricks.[3] Dunbar taught Wilson, Brewster and Koko how to navigate tight curves with cargo using a wooden flatcar during a training session.[4] Old Puffer Pete's 150th anniversary statue was placed on a wooden flatcar.[5]

Chute flatcars are made out of wood and have chutes similar to hopper cars.

Painted Flatcars[]

Painted flatcars have a more elaborate design than other flatcars. Dunbar collected one of these flatcars after presuming that Wilson had forgotten what he was doing while collecting a car for the Chug of War.[6]

In the first series episode, Eddie Finds Time, a painted flatcar painted brown with lighter accents appears. In all other appearances of painted flatcars, they are painted cream with red accents.

Metal-Wooden Flatcars[]

Metal-wooden flatcars are made out of wood with metal coverings and buffers. Metal-wooden flatcars replace metal, wooden, and chute flatcars beginning with the second series.

Both types of metal wooden flatcars are made of unpainted metal and wood. The second type of metal-wooden flatcar has two additional variants. The second type of metal-wooden flatcar also has a variant with yellow-painted buffer housings and a variant with dark-blue coverings and buffers.

Foundry Flatcars are a type of flatcar that move along a special set of rails in order to transport molten steel in the Foundry. Brewster found a foundry flatcar abandoned at the power station.[7]

Well Wagons[]

Well wagons are flat wagons with a lowered section in the middle. They are used for transporting loads that would otherwise be too tall for a normal flatbed, such as heavy machinery, vehicles and locomotives. Once, Hoot and Toot transport a model dinosaur to promote its exhibit at the Museum.[8]

Docks Flatcars[]

Docks flatcars originate from Chuggington Docks and are specially designed to securely carry containers and tankers. Docks flatcars act as the wheelbases of fuel tankers.

Docks flatcars are painted blue with black tops and wheel trucks. The Docks logo is painted on their sides.
